Enjoy an enchanting evening of highlights from Mark Adamo’s celebrated opera, Little Women, performed in the acoustically evocative Concord School of Philosophy on the grounds of Louisa May Alcott’s Orchard House by students of Boston Conservatory at Berklee’s Graduate Opera Program!
Hailed as one of the great modern American operas, Adamo’s adaptation of Louisa May Alcott’s beloved novel follows the spirited March sisters as they navigate love, loss, and the bonds of family amid the American Civil War. His lush, contemporary score—filled with soaring melodies and emotional depth— has captivated audiences since its 1998 début, and remains one of the most frequently performed American operas, both nationally and internationally, over the past quarter-century.
The one-hour program, suitable for all ages, offers a vivid journey through the heart of Alcott’s story featuring selected scenes and arias linked by narration. At the reception that follows, attendees can meet-and-greet members of the Boston Conservatory Opera Program—the oldest opera training program in America and home to some of today’s most promising young artists. This past year alone, ten current students and recent alumni were winners of the Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition!
Orchard House—the very place that inspired Alcott’s timeless classic—is proud to host the fresh, exuberant voices of next generation opera stars bringing this quintessential American tale to life!
