Employment and Volunteer Opportunities

Join our Staff or Volunteer!

Visiting Louisa May Alcott's Orchard House in Historic Concord, MA has been a true pilgrimage for millions since 1911.  Open year-round for guided tours, educational programs, and special events, Orchard House is always interested in having knowledgeable, enthusiastic, conscientious, and personable employees and volunteers to help with accommodating our many visitors.  We are currently accepting applications for:

Historic Interpreters (aka Tour Guides)

  • Positions available as paid part-time employment ($15.25/hour base rate), on a volunteer basis, or an unpaid internship
  • Applicants for paid positions must be at least 16 years of age
  • Initial and periodic ongoing training provided
  • Primary responsibilities are to conduct guided tours of Orchard House and assist with other tasks necessary for daily operations of the historic site
  • At least three (3) weekend days per month required
  • Individuals with greater scheduling flexibility may be able to secure a significant number of shifts during periods of high visitation
  • Advancement opportunities may exist for qualified individuals to work at our Front Desk and/or assist with educational programs and Living History events

Volunteers

  • Volunteers of all ages are welcome at Orchard House (those under age 16 must be accompanied by an adult while volunteering); training is provided
  • Community Service credit is available to high schoolers and Cadette or Eagle Scouts, while supervision and evaluation is provided to college interns
  • Opportunities to volunteer are wide-ranging -- become an Historic Interpreter; facilitate showing our Informational Video in The School of Philosophy; help maintain our gardens and grounds; assist with clerical tasks; provide refreshments or other support for special events; handcraft donations for our charity partners
  • Flexible hours based on seasonal needs

Please complete and submit this application to be considered for a paid or volunteer position; if you wish, you may also attach a resume, cover letter, and/or letter of reference. Please note: Applicants will only be contacted for an interview if their qualifications align with our staffing needs. Thank you for your interest!
